Greetings, Members and Friends of FCU! Thank you for granting me a sabbatical to refresh, renew and revive. I am approaching my time away from FCU with a sense of radical curiosity – both for what the time will shape into for me, and for you, the congregation. I’m excited for all of us, truly.… Read More »
Sabbatical coming, and my blog…
I will be on sabbatical from January 22, 2024 until May 19, 2024 (four months). During this time, I am essentially not in touch with congregants. However, I have been posting lately on my blog, and might occasionally post there during sabbatical. If you want the occasional update, that might be the place to look!
Back in the saddle…
As many of you know, my mother got very sick last month. Thank you all for thinking of us and wishing Mom well. She is doing much better, thank goodness! I have mapped out my Sunday services for the year, and I’m very excited. I can’t wait to see you on Sunday, September 10 at… Read More »
New UUA President!
The most momentous news from UUA General Assembly is that we elected a new President, the Rev. Sofía Betancourt, Ph.D.! You can read about that (and other highlights) here. The delegates also voted to move forward with sweeping changes to Article II of the UUA bylaws. We’ll say more about that on the July 9th… Read More »
Back from UUA General Assembly in Pittsburgh
I am freshly returned from the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregation’s annual business meeting, General Assembly. I’m inspired and a bit exhausted too. So much food for thought in such a short time! One workshop I’m very much mulling over is “Disrupt Church: Creating What’s Next”, led by Rev. Dr. Peggy Clarke and Jil Novenski,… Read More »
Remaining Hopeful for Sept. 12 Re-Opening
We know that many of you are wondering about the plans to resume in-person services this Fall. Your Executive Team (Standing and Deacons) have been meeting regularly throughout the summer to craft a road map to bringing us all together in our sanctuary again. It is our goal and intention to celebrate our reopening in… Read More »
Behind the Scenes at Standing Committee
Since we haven’t had a chance to see each other face-to-face, it may seem like there is not much going on around FCU these days. Nothing could be further from the truth. Our Standing Committee (SC) has been as busy as ever. Here are some of the things that the SC has been working on:… Read More »
Wow…Here We Are Now!
Wow… what a week this has been. A roller-coaster of emotions. My lowest day was mid-week as we endured the glacial pace of vote tallying, faced a return to red COVID-19 status and were confronted with the realization that the holiday season would look quite different this year. I kind of wanted to just hide… Read More »
Creative Members Re-Imagine FCU
Several months ago, the Standing Committee reached out to our committees and asked them to “re-imagine” their committees’ work in these crazy and unpredictable times of a world-wide pandemic. No doubt about it, we are living our lives very differently and “doing” church differently as well. With that said I’d like to share some of… Read More »
RE-Imagining FCU
While we dearly miss being together to worship and be in community in person, we are truly grateful that our online connection has been strong and vital. Every week of an online service has helped to “flatten” the technology learning curve and after months of online services we are getting pretty savvy I must say! When… Read More »
