Reclaiming Our Democracy is a task force of the Council on Social Justice, First Church Unitarian, Littleton, MA. We support the democratic process to promote justice, equity, and compassion and encompasses the inherent worth and dignity of every person. We take action to protect civil liberties guaranteed in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights, especially for vulnerable groups targeted by those currently in power. We work to thwart the takeover of our democracy from a would-be authoritarian regime by contacting elected officials, encouraging institutions not to collaborate, joining national and local protests, writing letters and postcards to educate voters, and other peaceful and non-violent strategies.
Some of our more recent activities include
- Forum on immigrant rights
- De-escalation training
- Poster making in collaboration with local pro-democracy groups
- Emma’s Revolution concert, “An Evening of Hope and Resistance” with protest poster contest
- Art contest, “Stronger Together: Art for Democracy” co-sponsored by League of Women Voters of Westford and supported by grants from the Littleton and Westford Cultural Councils
- Letter writing to corporations to encourage inclusivity and diversity
- Postcards to educate voters on non-partisan pro-democracy issues
