Caring Villages
In January 2010 the Lay Ministry Team launched a new program called Caring Villages.
Under the Caring Village Program the congregation of First Church Unitarian has been
geographically divided into smaller “villages”. Villages offer each of us an opportunity
to fulfill part our covenant:
Love is the spirit of this church and
service its
law.
This is our great covenant:
To dwell together in peace,
To seek the truth in love, and
To help one another.
With this in mind, village members provide whatever care they are able to contribute
to others in their village during a time of need. Some of the suggested offerings are:
help with a meal because of illness or injury, carpooling to church, transportation to a
doctor appointment or airport, pick up a child after school or getting together to share a meal.
There are a myriad of ways that we can build a caring community!
The Lay Ministers are aware that many of us have other connections at First Church Unitarian to
whom we might turn in times of need, or to whose needs you would naturally respond.
The Caring Villages Program is intended to enhance those connections, while offering opportunities
to meet those who live near you.
Church members are encouraged to participate in the program. It is a wonderful way to
feel more connected to the church community. If you have initially decided the program
is not right for you, you should know that you are always welcome to change your mind.
For more information about how the program works or for assistance in being connected to a village,
please contact any Lay Minister.
