ChaliceAbout our Congregation

Our church, like more than 1,000 member societies, is affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Association of North America.

The heart of Unitarian Universalism is love, service and community. Nurtured by the congregation, each of us is free to find our own path to wisdom, understanding, and spiritual growth.

The people of our congregation come from a variety of religious backgrounds, are of all ages, live in several communities, and have many interests. We share in a love of music, an appreciation of humor, and a desire to preserve our diversity by respecting each other's beliefs.

Our Covenant

Love is the spirit of this church and service its law.
    This is our great covenant:
    To dwell together in peace,
To seek the truth in love, and
    To help one another.

Our Vision

Our vision is to be a vibrant, loving, diverse community rejoicing in being
a sanctuary that fosters spiritual and personal growth. Inspired by our
shared values, together we dedicate ourselves to be stewards of our church,
and to promote environmental and social justice for generations to come.

Our Vision Statement was approved by the Congregation at Annual Meeting in May 2009.

Our Mission

The mission of First Church Unitarian
is to be a welcoming, compassionate, and diverse community,
    seeking spiritual growth and fellowship
while working for a just, peaceable, and sustainable world.

The hour-long Sunday Services begin at 10:00 am and usually include music, readings, a children's time, meditation and a sermon. Members of the congregation actively participate in the service with the minister. Guest speakers are welcomed to the pulpit. Coffee and fellowship are offered in the vestry following each service.

We are a Welcoming Congregation

First Church Unitarian is a proud member of the UU Association's "Welcoming Congregation" program, which means we are committed to providing a warm and open environment to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.
